A bit of a Rant: Jam Session review 15th Decenber 2024

27 musos turned up of which three were saxophonists, five were drummers, two were bass players, four were pianists, and ten were vocalists (plus Gaelle who didn't get a guernsey). The Good Captain did his best, but eventually had to resort to limiting the singers to two songs each.

This is, of course, entirely fair and reasonable, as there too many of them, and they are not real musicians are they... We would all rather hear from the real musos, who played their own solos on every vocal number, all the instrumentals, and then some....

End of rant.

[Editor's note:  My, our esteemed author is in fine form today; definitely overworked and underpaid.   I have to say I wasn't aware of these goings on, too busy having a wonderful time chatting away to all and sundry (when not spilling my red wine on them), watching the cricket and occasionally engaging in on-stage percussive activities - overall, it was the usual great day - but was sad to see Gaelle depart unsung.]

Other than that... the Good Captain opined that the standard of music is on the up (and we would agree). Paul the pick of the saxes, with GC and Jeff sounding good; bass players Ivan and Stan Van Hooft both a delight to play with; and amongst the singers, Ruby and Peter Herne stood out, Rose is singing better and better, and Christine got the more dissolute members of the audience singing along. Of the drummers, I would describe Mr Hirsch as in a rumbunctious mood, but only if he doesn't google rumbunctious, Martin played as smoothly as ever, it was good to see Michael Frost back in the saddle. and Richard, possibly, the pick of them this time.
