Jam Session Review for 16th Feb 2025
Did the B Team miss the superstars that flogged all the way to Port Fairy and back? No, as it turns out, a few of the regular jammers had a good time without the petrol bills to prove it: eighteen musos at the Big C, amongst them Cardinal Calamatta and Aneta, whose gig got cancelled because it was outdoors and too windy; and Steve Martin (bass) and meself, who had just done three hours outdoors at the Boatshed Cafe.
The sound system was tested and re-tested, after the previous week's distortions, and worked flawlessly all arvo. Tonsil artistes Aneta, Debbie W, Fiona, Rose, Christine Manetta sang a range of genres, Andre and Bruce Maddigan shared percussion duties, Martin (from Germany) added some classy bass, and just as I was about to fall over, Tony Luxmoore stepped up to the keys. Nev and Mike were their usual selves on guitars, the Good Captain and Keef admirable on sax..
Which leads to the performance of the day: in an otherwise noisy afternoon, Lynne Collins (flute) and Steve (violin) played a magic version of St James Infirmary Blues: restrained, classy, with just keys, drums and bass behind them. Hope they can do it again....
This week, the cats are back, loaded with tall tales and true from Port Fairy. You have been warned.. (actually, welcome back chaps!)
